First Phase (1956-1970)

Agriculture Sector:

  • Post-merger, several agrarian reforms were initiated, including the Jagirdari Abolition Act, 1949, which abolished intermediaries like Jagirs, Maktas, and Munsabs.
  • The Hyderabad Tenancy Act, 1950, was introduced to protect tenants’ rights, ensuring ownership for those who held land on lease for over six years. This led to an increase in the area under cultivation.
  • The sectoral composition of income in Telangana was more diversified, with a significant portion coming from non-agricultural activities like industry and administration, unlike Andhra, which was primarily agriculture-based.
