Industrial Landscape Before and After 1956:
Pre-1956 Industrial Development:
- Mineral and Forest-Based Industries: Districts such as Kothagudem and Yellandu in Khammam district, and Bellampalli in Adilabad district, benefited from coal deposits, facilitating the establishment of coal mining and iron-based industries. Forest resources in Adilabad further supported forest-based industries.
- Urban Industrial Hubs: Hyderabad and Secunderabad, due to their connectivity and strategic importance, became industrial hubs even before the formation of united Andhra Pradesh. Key industries included Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited, Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited, Hindustan Aeronautical Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited, and Praga Tools Corporation Ltd. These industries thrived in the public sector, while private sector entities like Hyderabad Allwyn Metal Works, Republic Forge, Hyderabad Asbestos, and Andhra Machine Tools Corporation were also established around these cities.
Post-1956 Industrial Development:
- Relative Decline in Industrial Growth: Despite Telangana’s advanced industrial base at the time of Andhra Pradesh’s formation, its industrial development lagged behind in the united state. The growth rate of industrial investment in Telangana declined, and the region’s share of industrial production in the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) decreased. In contrast, regions like Rayalaseema saw an increase in industrial activity.
