- Assigned lands refer to government lands distributed to individuals or institutions either at market value or free of cost. These lands, often referred to as “Godha” lands in historical contexts, were allocated to poor individuals with cultivation rights but without the right to sell or transfer the land.
- The process of assigning lands in Telangana dates back to the early 20th century, with guidelines issued in 1317 Fasli (1907). The government of Andhra Pradesh formalized the policy in 1958 with GOs 1406 and 1407, outlining which lands could be assigned and exempting others, such as those reserved for public utilities, forestry, and military purposes.
