Telangana’s economy is showing robust growth across various sectors, with the secondary sector, particularly manufacturing, and the services sector playing significant roles. The state’s proactive approach in securing investments and promoting eco-tourism, along with steady growth in the mining sector, underscores its dynamic economic environment. These developments are indicative of Telangana’s strategic initiatives to drive economic growth, diversify its economic base, and enhance its appeal as a destination for investment and tourism.

Growth in the Secondary Sector

  • The Secondary sector in Telangana exhibited a robust growth of 10.1% between 2022-23 (FRE) and 2023-24 (AE) at current prices.
  • Within this sector, the Manufacturing sub-sector recorded a growth rate of 9.6% during the same period, indicating strong industrial activity and expansion in the state.

Dominance of the Services Sector

  • For the year 2023-24 (AE), the Services sector accounted for 65.7% of Telangana’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) at current prices.
  • This makes the services sector the most dominant contributor to the state’s economy, reflecting its critical role in driving growth and employment.

Investment Proposals at World Economic Forum (WEF)

  • At the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Telangana secured Rs. 40,232 crore in new investment proposals.
  • This nearly doubled the previous year’s investment figures, showcasing the state’s growing appeal as an investment destination. The Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri A. Revanth Reddy led the state delegation in securing these investments.

Growth in the Mining Sector

  • The mining sector in Telangana is experiencing significant growth, particularly with the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL).
  • SCCL achieved a new milestone by producing 70.02 million tons (MTs) of coal during 2023-24, marking a 4.3% increase from the 67.14 MTs mined in 2022-23.

Promotion of Eco-Tourism

  • The Telangana government is actively promoting eco-tourism by establishing a consultative committee dedicated to developing eco-tourism circuits within the state.
  • The aim is to position Telangana as a leading eco-tourism destination, capitalizing on its diverse natural landscapes and rich biodiversity.
  • So far, 12 destinations have been identified for development under this initiative, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing tourism and leveraging the state’s ecological assets
