Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) services are a vital component of Telangana’s child health initiatives. KMC is a globally recognised method for caring for preterm and low birth weight infants, focusing on skin-to-skin contact between the mother and baby to promote bonding and enhance health outcomes. These services are available in all Special Newborn Care Units (SNCUs) across the state. The integration of such innovative and evidence-based practices highlights Telangana’s commitment to improving neonatal care and ensuring better health outcomes for children. In the period 2023–24 (up to June 2024), a total of 8,189 children were provided with Kangaroo Mother Care.
