The state’s tribal population, which constitutes 9.07% of the total population, is primarily served by four Integrated Tribal Development Agencies (ITDAs) located in Bhadrachalam, Eturunagaram, Utnoor, and Mannanoor. Health services in these regions are delivered through 599 Sub-Centers (SCs), 86 Primary Health Centers (PHCs), 10 Community Health Centers (CHCs), 6 Area Hospitals, and 12 Birth Waiting Homes (BWHs). To strengthen healthcare delivery, a total of 2,987 Community Health Workers (CHWs) are employed across tribal areas.

Multi-speciality medical camps are regularly organised in CHCs and Area Hospitals, where specialist doctors from non-tribal regions offer specialised healthcare. During the 2023–24 period (up to January 2024), 10,358 patients were examined in these camps. The 12 Birth Waiting Homes play a crucial role in promoting institutional deliveries among pregnant tribal women, ensuring safe childbirth and facilitating a minimum 48-hour post-delivery stay.

To further enhance maternal care, 19 Maternal and Child Health (MCH) teams are deployed to remote tribal areas. These teams are responsible for identifying and assisting pregnant women who are unable to reach health facilities for regular check-ups. The teams provide antenatal and postnatal care, identify high-risk pregnancies, and refer critical cases to the nearest First Referral Unit (FRU) for specialised attention.
