  • The Andhra Pradesh (Telangana Area) Inamdari Abolition Act, 1955 was introduced to abolish the inamdari system, which, like the jagirdari system, was exploitative. The act targeted all inam lands except those granted for services to the Nizam or for religious and charitable purposes. The primary objective was to provide occupancy rights to the tenants cultivating these lands.
  • However, the implementation of this act was slow and ineffective, with many cultivators of inam lands not receiving legal rights for decades, adversely affecting agricultural growth in the region. In response to these ongoing issues, the Koneru Ranga Rao Committee in 2006 recommended a thorough examination of land records related to inam lands and urged the government to prepare a list of cultivators for the proper settlement of these issues.
