Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in Telangana

Purpose:

• • FPOs are formed to protect farmers’ interests and help them achieve better prices for their produce by increasing their bargaining power.

Benefits of FPOs:

• • Help small and marginal farmers achieve economies of scale in purchasing inputs, processing, and marketing their produce.
  • Provide farmers with access to timely credit and market linkages.

Promoting Institutions:

• • NABARD and Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC) support FPOs through partnerships with Producer Organization Promoting Institutions (POPIs).
  • SERP promotes Farmer Producer Groups with women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

FPOs in Telangana:

• • 44 FPOs set up as Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) operate in Telangana.
  • These FPCs empower farmers to access financial inputs, services, and technology and help organize collection, processing, storage, and marketing of their produce for better prices.
