Gautamiputra Satakarni was succeeded by his son, Pulomavi II, also known as Vasisthiputra Pulomavi. He ruled for twenty-four years. His reign is mentioned in inscriptions found at Nasik, Karle, Amaravati, and Dharanikota.
He assumed the title Dakshinapathapati or ‘The Lord of the Deccan’, indicating that he ruled a vast kingdom. However, during his reign, the Satavahana kingdom faced challenges from the Saka chieftain Chastana, who occupied Malwa and established an independent kingdom at Ujjain. As a result, Pulomavi II was forced to shift the capital from Prathisthana to Dhanyakataka (Amaravati).
His reign marked the beginning of the decline of the Satavahana rule. He was succeeded by Sivasri Satakarni, who ruled for a very short period. According to the Junagarh inscription, the Saka ruler Rudradaman of Saurashtra defeated Sivasri Satakarni twice.
