Osmansagar, also known as Gandipet, has significant historical importance as it was created in 1920 under
the initiative of Mir Osman Ali Khan, the last Nizam of Hyderabad. The lake was developed as part of a damming project aimed at supplying drinking water to the growing city of Hyderabad. Constructed by damming the Isa, a tributary of the Musi River, Osmansagar serves as a testament to the engineering efforts of the time to address water scarcity issues. The lake not only provided essential water resources but also became a recreational area for the residents. The heritage building Sagar Mahal, originally built as a resort for the Nizam, reflects the architectural style of that era and has been repurposed into a lake resort by the Department of Tourism. Over the years, Osmansagar has remained a popular destination, symbolizing the blend of natural beauty and historical significance in the region.
