Kolam Tribe

Kolam Tribe :

The Kolams, also known as Kolavarlu, are mostly found in the Adilabad district. They are also called Manneru Varlu, which means “forest dwellers.” Their main jobs are shifting cultivation and settled agriculture. They speak their own Kolam dialect. They consider themselves the descendants of Bhima and Hidimbi (from the Mahabharata). They follow a Levirate tradition, where a widow marries her deceased husband’s brother. They eat a lot of Jowar, which is their staple food.
