The Musi Project was constructed across the Musi river near Solipet Village in Nalgonda District. The project was commenced in June, 1954 and completed in February 1963. The Musi river is one of the major tributaries of Krishna. The river originates in Ananthagiri hills near Vikarabad, Rangareddy district at an altitude of 4660m.

Location:

The reservoir was constructed across Musi river originates from the hills of Ananthagiri in Rangareddy District and travels a length of 240Kms and joins river Krishna at Nalgonda District near Vazirabad at an altitude of +61m. The dam is situated at 10kms upstream of Tekumatla bridge across the river on National Highway No.9 from Hyderabad to Machilipatnam.

MUSI PROJECT MODERNIZATION:

  • Musi Project was commenced by 1954 and completed in 1963.
  • The Project designed for 4.60 TMC to irrigate ayacut of 41,000 Acres and subsequent changed to 30,000 Acres since 1973 onwards Khariff (wet) to Rabi (ID).
  • Under the Project area covered in 41 villages of 6 Mandals of Suryapet & Nalgonda.
  • Under Left Canal 15,230 Acres in 22 villages in 3 Mandals of Suryapet Constituency.
  • Right Canal 14,770 Acres in 19 villages in Mandals of Nakrekal, Nalongda & Miryalaguda Constituency.
  • Before formation of Telangana State. Expenditure incurred 3.41 Crores in 70 years before 2014.
  • After Formation of Telangana State. After formation of Telangana State taken up to repairs and replacement of Crest gates and taken up the Replacement of 12 No’s Crest Gates. Replacement of 8 No’s Regulator Gates.
  • Only 12 No’s Crest gates were initially proposed Administrative Approval Rs. 11.87 Crores.
  • After formation of Telangana State, the damaged 8No’s regulators were included for replacement with Revised Estimate of Rs.18.78 Crores.
  • As a part of Modernization Sanctioned for Rs.65.57 Crores. The following works are proposed.

i) Earth Work Excavation:

  • The canals are silted in the most of the reaches and the provision is made in estimate and also for providing lining.

ii) 75mm Thick with M-15:

  • The 75mm thick lining with M-15 concrete is provided where there is no Lining.

iii) Lining with RR Masonry:

  • Most of the Canals are lined with RR masonry is disturbed. The lining with RR stone with 40% of new stones provided.

iv) Banking:

  • The existing banking not up to TBL.

v) Re-Construction of SLR Bridges:

  • 11 No’s of SLR bridges proposed for re-construction.

vi) Re-Construction of OT sluices:

  • 67 No’s of OT sluices were proposed for re-construction.
