YSR Congress Party Role

  • In 2011, Y.S. Raja Shekhar Reddy’s son, Jagan Mohan Reddy, established the Y.S.R Congress Party. Initially, the party acknowledged the Telangana sentiment and called on the Central government to resolve the statehood issue fairly, without causing injustice to either region.
  • During an all-party meeting in Delhi on December 28, 2012, the YSR Congress Party referenced Article 3 of the Indian Constitution, asserting that the Central Government holds the authority to make decisions regarding state boundaries.
  • The party argued that the opinions of regional parties should not dictate the formation of smaller states and that the Central Government should proceed with necessary actions as it sees fit.
  • However, as the movement progressed, the YSR Congress Party shifted its position to oppose the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, advocating for a united state. When the Telangana bill was presented in Parliament, YSR Congress’s sole MP, Y.S. Jagan, visibly protested against the bill by displaying a placard in opposition.
