The Large Rock Rat (Elvira Rat)
Scientific Name: Cremnomys Elvira
- The Large Rock Rat, also known as the Elvira Rat, is a medium-sized, nocturnal, and burrowing rodent that is endemic to India.
- It primarily inhabits tropical dry deciduous shrubland forests located in rocky terrains.
- This species has an extremely limited distribution, being found only in the Eastern Ghats of Tamil Nadu, at elevations of approximately 600 metres above mean sea level.
- The main threats to its survival include habitat loss, forest conversion for other land uses, and fuelwood collection, which continue to reduce its already restricted habitat.
