Formation and Objective
- Established on: 3rd February 2010 by the Central Government.
- Chairperson: Justice Sri Krishna.
- Purpose: To examine the Telangana issue and explore possible solutions.
- Methodology:
- Conducted extensive travel across Telangana.
- Gathered information from various sections of people.
- Collected nearly one lakh memorandums.
- Report Submission: 30th December 2011 (505-page report in two volumes submitted to the Home Ministry).
Six Proposed Solutions
- Keep Andhra Pradesh united.
- Divide the state, make Hyderabad a Union Territory, and have separate capitals for Andhra and Telangana.
- Form “Rayala Telangana” by merging Rayalaseema with Telangana and making Coastal Andhra a separate state. Hyderabad would be part of Rayala Telangana.
- Divide into Seemandhra and Telangana, and make Hyderabad a Union Territory with expanded boundaries.
- Divide into Seemandhra and Telangana, and declare Hyderabad as the capital of Telangana while creating a new capital for Seemandhra.
- Keep the state united but implement socio-economic measures for Telangana, including the establishment of a Statutory Telangana Regional Council.
Final Report & Controversy
- Submitted to the Home Minister.
- Report consisted of nine chapters, but eight were sealed.
- Legal Challenge:
- Pandit Narayana Reddy (former MP from Nizamabad) filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the committee in the High Court.
- High Court Ruling: The Sri Krishna Committee exceeded its limits.
