The requests and representations of the employees unions, people ‘s organizations and TRS Party were taken lightly by the Government and all of them were prepared to “do or die” on the 1SSue of the Free Zone. A Joint Action Committee of all the Employees Unions was formed to conduct the Telangana Agitation jointly. The TRS party supported the employees unions. The employees union gave a call for Siddipet Employees Roar on 2 October 2009 against Hyderabad as a Free Zone.

  • Thousands of employees participated in this programme and made it a success. Poets, artists and intellectuals attended the meeting. The Prominent social activist Swami Agnivesh attended this meeting and extended support to the Telangana Movement. In this meeting demand was made to make an amendment to the Constitution to make it a part of the Sixth Zone. It was announced by the employees union at this meeting that if Hyderabad was not removed as a Free Zone they would go on pen down strike and that the police would go on gun down strike.
  • KCR known for his command over native idiom spoke emotionally and gave a unique call “Telangana Wale Jago, Andhra Wale bhago ”. He reiterated that he will make all efforts for attaining a separate State and if not successful he will go on indefinite hunger strike at his birth place Siddipet near the Martyrs Stupa and attain Telangana even by sacrificing his life. The hunger strike would take place on Gandhian ideology and by the non-violent method. It was left to the Telangana people to decide if they wanted to participate in his funeral procession or in the victory march after attaining Telangana.
  • The announcement of hunger strike by KCR and the warnings of the employee organizations and the announcement of Hunger Strike were taken lightly by the Central and the State Governments. There were no elections in the near future to prove that the wish to attain separate Telangana was strong among the people.
  • The TRS formulated the Hunger Strike with the single demand for a Separate State and no party supported it in the beginning. During this distressed time, all the employees unions and people’s organizations stood in support of KCR Hunger Strike and the TRS Party’s agitation plan. The massive support boosted the confidence of the party.
  • The historical necessity of the hunger strike was canvassed widely all over Telangana through meetings, seminars, conferences, pamphlets, fallies, cultural and literary programmes. Political atmosphere in Telangana became surcharged with emotion and anxiety over the outcome of such a decisive course of action.
