Mission Shakti

  • Mission Shakti was launched during the 15th Finance Commission period of 2021- 2022 to 2025-26. The Mission Shakti guidelines have been active since 1 April 2022. Mission Shakti is a program that takes charge of the safety, security, and empowerment of women. The Government of India introduced it under the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

  • The Vision of Mission Shakti is to create a society where women are empowered. They have equal opportunities to succeed in all spheres of life. Mission Shakti aims to achieve this vision by providing women with the skills, resources, and support they need

Objectives of Mission Shakti

  •  The Mission Shakti‘s objective is to provide short- and long-term services and information for all women and girls, including those with disabilities, socially and economically marginalized groups, and vulnerable individuals who need care and protection, in order to promote their holistic development and empowerment.
  • The primary objectives of Mission Shakti’s components are to empower women or to protect and support women who are victims of abuse or who are in challenging situations.
  • Immediate care and Protection: offering women who have experienced violence an immediate and thorough continuum of care, support, and aid for those in need.
  • Enhancing Quality Mechanisms: To establish effective systems for the rescue, defense, and rehabilitation of women who are in need of help and who are victims of crime and violence.
  • Making Government Services Accessible: To increase women’s access to various government services at various levels.
  • Igniting Awareness Among People: educating the public about government initiatives, programs, and legal protections that battle societal ills, including dowry, domestic abuse, sexual harassment at work, and promoting gender equality, etc.
  • Building functional and responsibility bearers’ capacities and providing them with training under various programs and laws
  • Collaboration with partner Ministries, Departments, States, and UTs to align policies, programs, and schemes and to foster public-private partnerships that will advance women’s empowerment and safety in all spheres of society.
  • Spreading Positivity: Create awareness among the masses for inducing positive behavioral change toward women and girls.
  • Elimination of Sex Selection Methods: To secure the girl child’s survival, protection, education, and growth; to stop gender-biased sex-selective elimination.
