- According to the WHO, drinking water should not contain more than 1.5mg/l of fluoride. However, water that contains more than 1.5 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride is not safe to drink. In India, over 10 million people are at risk of disability due to high fluoride content in water.
- The National Programme for Prevention and Control of Fluorosis provides assistance to states, including purchasing lab equipment, training, and health education and publicity.
