UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance)
Introduction
- UMANG is a mobile application platform launched by the Government of India on 23rd November 2017.
- Developed by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and National e-Governance Division (NeGD).
- It acts as a single unified platform to provide access to multiple Central, State, and Local Government services through mobile phones, desktops, and tablets.
- It was conceptualized under the Digital India Programme to promote “Mobile First” governance.
Objectives
- To provide all government services on one mobile platform.
- To enhance ease of living by reducing the need to download multiple apps for different services.
- To promote cashless, paperless, and faceless governance.
- To expand digital inclusion by integrating central ministries, state departments, and local bodies.
- To enable anytime, anywhere governance using smartphones and the internet.

1. Single App – Multiple Services
- Provides access to 1000+ services from 200+ departments and 30+ states/UTs.
2. Wide Range of Services
- Central Government Services: EPFO, PAN, Passport, Income Tax filing, CBSE results.
- State Government Services: Land records, electricity bill payments, municipal services.
- Utility Services: Gas booking, mobile bill payments, FASTag recharge.
3. Multilingual Support
- Available in 13 Indian languages, enhancing inclusivity.
4. Multiple Access Channels
- Can be accessed via mobile app, desktop, SMS, and IVR (Interactive Voice Response).
5. Secure & Unified Login
- Provides single sign-on for multiple services.
- Integrated with Aadhaar, DigiLocker, and PayGov for authentication and payments.
6. Cashless Payments
- Supports Unified Payments Interface (UPI), debit/credit cards, and net banking.
