The Telangana Vidya Vantula Vedika was established in March 2004 by Kodandaram, Burra Ramulu, Jaya Shankar, and others to spread awareness about the injustices faced by Telangana and to mobilize intellectuals in support of the movement.
The organization actively engaged in publishing handouts exposing injustices in Telangana and distributing materials during the 2004 elections to educate the public. It also established district committees to strengthen its network and ensure widespread awareness.
In its protests, the Vedika opposed major projects such as Pothireddypadu, Pulichintala, and Polavaram, which were perceived as detrimental to Telangana’s interests. The organization also contributed to literature on Telangana’s struggles by publishing books like Telangana Varthamanam Bhoomi Pundu, among others.
Its role became even more significant after the formation of the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) in 2009, where it played a crucial part in uniting intellectuals and activists to push forward the demand for Telangana statehood.
