What is an Anti-Narcotics Task Force?
An Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) is a specialised State-level enforcement mechanism created to prevent and investigate narcotics-related crimes.
Its major responsibilities include:
- Identifying drug-trafficking networks
- Conducting intelligence-based operations
- Controlling synthetic drugs and precursor chemicals
- Coordinating with the NCB and other enforcement agencies
- Supporting investigation and prosecution
- Promoting drug-abuse prevention
ANTFs have been notified in all 36 States and Union Territories. However, their structure, resources and responsibilities differ. The NCB circulated a model framework for an ideal State ANTF in June 2026 to improve institutional uniformity.
