The origin of beedi cultivation can be traced back to the Nizamabad district of Telangana. Individuals working in this sector tend to be called “rollers.” The bulk of these laborers, especially the women who make up the workforce, suffer from serious maladies like tuberculosis (TB) and cancer as a result of their repeated inhalation of the potent odors associated with the beedi-making process.
