In the parliament, in the joint session of both the houses the then president APJ Abdul Kalam, Speaking about state central relations introduced the issue of the formation of Telangana state.
- The president stated in the house that the government will consider the demand for the formation of Telangana state at an appropriate time after due consultations. It’s a well known fact that the president’s speech is prepared by the ruling party. Political analysts questioned the words consultations and consensus.
- They wondered why it was necessary in the case of Telangana only when other states were formed without such a process. However, as an allied party of UPA, TRS influenced the congress leadership and was successful in getting it included in the common minimum programme and in the president address.
