During the tenure of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), economic policies contributed to regional disparity, particularly disadvantaging Telangana. Instead of focusing on resource redistribution or improving agricultural productivity, the TDP implemented populist schemes that exacerbated the socio-economic divide. Favoritism toward the Andhra region was evident in policies such as the rice subsidy scheme and investments in irrigated areas of coastal Andhra, further strengthening its economic dominance over Telangana. Despite positioning itself as a regional party representing Telugu interests, the TDP’s policies largely benefited coastal Andhra, alienating Telangana.
Injustice in Government Jobs During NTR’s Tenure
During N.T. Rama Rao’s tenure, government job allocations witnessed significant irregularities, with a large number of non-locals being illegally employed in positions reserved for Telangana. This led to widespread resentment among Telangana residents, particularly government employees, who actively protested against these violations of local rights. The protests eventually compelled the government to issue G.O. 610 in December 1985, aimed at rectifying these irregularities and ensuring that government jobs designated for Telangana locals were not usurped by non-locals.
