National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB)
Introduction
The National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) was established in 1982 by the Government of India. It functions under the Department of Science & Technology (DST). The main goal of this board is to promote and support businesses that are based on science, technology, and innovation. It helps in creating startups that use high-level knowledge and modern technology.
Major Objectives of NSTEDB
The board works toward making India a leader in technology-based businesses through the following objectives:
- Promoting High-End Entrepreneurship: It encourages people with science and technology backgrounds to start their own ventures. This helps in creating self-employment for highly skilled manpower.
- Information Services: The board provides various informational services to help people understand how to start and run a business.
- Networking: It builds a strong network between academic institutions, research and development (R&D) organizations, and support agencies. This helps new entrepreneurs get the guidance they need.
- Focus on Backward Areas: Special attention is given to using science and technology for self-employment in backward areas of the country.
- Policy Advice: The board acts as an advisory body to the government on policies related to entrepreneurship.
In recent years, the Indian government has placed a strong focus on startups through initiatives like Start-Up India and Stand-Up India. To support this national agenda, the NSTEDB launched a new program in 2016 called NIDHI.
