National Parks and Wild Life Sanctuaries in Telangana

  • Amrabad Tiger Reserve, Wild life Sanctuary: Previously part of Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve, now the northern part belongs to Telangana and is named Amrabad Tiger Reserve.
  • Second-largest Tiger Reserve in India after Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve.
  • Notable fauna includes the Yellow-throated bulbul, star tortoise, mugger crocodile, tiger, leopard, nilgai, and sambar.
  • Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park:
  • Located amidst the urban areas of Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills in Hyderabad City.
  • Kawal Tiger Reserve:
  • Lies along the southern boundary of the Godavari River.
  • Vegetation consists of dry deciduous forests.
  • Major fauna includes tiger, leopard, gaur, cheetal, sambar, nilgai, barking deer, chausingha, and sloth bear.
  • Facing threats from human encroachment, poaching, illegal wood felling, and habitat loss.
  • Mahaveer Harina Vanasthali National Park:
  • Situated on the outskirts of Hyderabad, it’s a deer park named after Mahavir, a Jain saint.
  • Mrugavani National Park:
  • Located on the outskirts of Hyderabad, notable fauna includes spotted deer, wild boars, and foxes. Wildlife Sanctuaries of Telangana:
  • Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary: Part of the Dandakaranya forests of Mulugu district, inhabited by the Koya tribes, and hosts the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara (Medaram Jatara).
  • Kinnersani Wildlife Sanctuary: Surrounds Kinnerasani Reservoir on Kinnerasani River, contiguous with Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • Lanja Madugu Siwaram Wildlife Sanctuary: Situated on the right bank of the Godavari River, home to marsh crocodiles (mugger).
  • Manjeera Crocodile Wildlife Sanctuary: Located around Manjeera reservoir, supports mugger crocodile & freshwater turtles.
  • Pranahita Wildlife Sanctuary: Located on the bank of Pranahita River, known for blackbuck, with the river feeding into the Godavari River at Kaleswaram. Others:
  • Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary: Surrounds Pakhal lake near Warangal.
  • Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary: Named after Pocharam lake, located in Nizamabad and Medak districts.
