Major Government Digital Platforms and Initiatives
To achieve the goals of the Digital India Mission, the government has launched numerous sector-specific digital platforms. These initiatives span agriculture, healthcare, education, and citizen services, aiming to deliver targeted benefits, ensure transparency, and foster inclusive digital growth across the nation.
1. Governance and Citizen Services
- MyGov: A massive citizen engagement platform developed to facilitate participatory governance, allowing millions of users to share ideas and feedback directly with the government.
- MeriPehchaan: Launched in 2022, it is a National Single Sign-on (NSSO) platform that provides citizens with a single, secure login credential to access multiple different government portals easily.
- Jeevan Pramaan: A biometric-enabled digital service for pensioners. It completely digitizes the process of securing a Life Certificate, eliminating the need for elderly citizens to physically visit a disbursing agency.
- Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyaan): A flagship campaign aiming for universal accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). Its mobile app uses crowdsourcing to gather information on physically inaccessible public places.
- eBiz: Implemented under the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), it improves the ease of doing business by providing fast, single-window access to Government-to-Business (G2B) regulatory services.
- CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems): A nationwide, integrated networking infrastructure designed to enhance policing efficiency through a state-of-the-art tracking system focused on the investigation of crime and detection of criminals.
2. Agriculture and Rural Development
- AgriMarket App: Helps farmers avoid distress sales by fetching real-time crop prices from the Agmarknet portal. It automatically uses mobile GPS to show market prices within a 50km radius of the farmer.
- Crop Insurance Mobile App: A digital tool that allows farmers to instantly calculate their insurance premiums, normal/extended sum insured, and subsidy details for notified crops in their area.
- e-Panchayat: An e-Governance software solution designed to completely automate Gram Panchayat functions, empowering local communities to digitally showcase their social and economic practices.
3. Education and Skill Development
- PMGDISHA (Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyaan): A massive scheme specifically aimed at ushering in basic digital literacy in rural India, targeting to cover 6 Crore rural households (one person per household).
- FutureSkills Prime: A joint initiative by MeitY and NASSCOM aimed at the re-skilling and up-skilling of IT professionals in 10 emerging technologies, including AI, Blockchain, 3D Printing, and Cloud Computing.
- EDUSAT (GSAT-3): India’s first dedicated “Educational Satellite”, providing a satellite-based two-way communication network for distant classroom education from the school level up to higher education.
- e-Granthalaya: An Integrated Library Management Software developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). It automates library activities and provides a Web OPAC interface to publish library catalogs online, supporting local Indian languages.
- National Knowledge Network (NKN): A high-speed data communication network established strictly to interconnect institutions of higher learning and research across the country.
4. Healthcare and Social Welfare
- Digital AIIMS: Initiated in 2015 by linking AIIMS with UIDAI and MeitY. It generates a Unique Health Identification Number on the Aadhaar platform, giving every visiting patient a permanent digital medical identity.
- Telemedicine (Telehealth): The remote delivery of healthcare services over the telecommunications infrastructure, allowing doctors to diagnose and treat patients without requiring an in-person physical visit.
- Beti Bachao Beti Padhao: While primarily a social campaign linking national and district-level interventions to ensure the empowerment and education of the girl child across 100 targeted districts, it heavily utilizes digital platforms (like YouTube) for mass awareness.
5. Cybersecurity
- Data Privacy and Security: The government tackles challenges regarding data privacy and cyber threats primarily by administering the legal framework of the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000.
