An elephant corridor is defined as a narrow stretch of land, often forested, that connects two larger elephant habitats. These corridors are crucial for facilitating safe movement of elephants between habitats, thereby enhancing survival and reproduction rates.

As of now, 150 elephant corridors have been officially identified across India. Their regional distribution is as follows:

  • South India: 32 corridors
  • North-Western India: 12 corridors
  • Central India: 32 corridors
  • Northern West Bengal: 26 corridors
  • North-Eastern India: 48 corridors
