KCR Zindabad or Long Live KCR, We will sacrifice our lives, We will achieve Separate Telangana-The Telangana Bhavan was filled with these slogans. In the end amidst ceaseless anxiety. KCR started at 7.50 AM on 29th November 2009 from Karimnagar to the place of hunger strike at Siddipet. Along with KCR were JayaShankar, Captain Lakshmikantha Rao, Nayani Narasimha Reddy, VijayaRama Rao, Rajaiah Yadav, Etela Rajender, K.Tarakarama Rao, Naradasu Lakshman Rao, K VidyaSagar Rao, other leaders and party functionaries started in a convoy of about 100 vehicles from North Telangana Bhavan.
- The vehicle in which KCR was traveling was stopped at Alganuru Centre. Immediately Grey Hounds, Rapid Action Force and other police units surrounded the vehicle in which KCR was present. The top officials of the Police stated that he is being arrested. KCR immediately started a dharna protest on the road by sitting down. KCR was arrested and in the midst of arguments and alterations of the supporters with the police, he was taken away in a police vehicle after dispersing the Telangana people’s representatives and the Telangana agitators.
- Within minutes, news of the arrest of KCR spread like wildfire. The news of the arrest of KCR united the entire Telangana, Despite allegiances to separate flags and agendas, different ideologies and beliefs, different parties and organizations, different castes and religions, the 4 crore people of Telangana united. People came onto the roads and protested in different ways without fear of consequences. The condition on the roads led to traffic jams and roads remained blocked all through the day. There was tension all over the place.
- After the news of the arrest spread, the students of the Osmania University burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister. Within minutes hundreds of students assembled at the Arts College. They went in a peaceful rally from Arts College to the NCC Gate. The students in the rally were lathi charged without any warning by the police. They beat up many rallyists without discretion. Police brutality knew no bounds.
- Each student was singled out and thrashed by a group of policemen. Apart from the lathis the shoe studs of cops were put to use to trample the students. Ruthlessness was writ large in their work. It was a mayhem of men in uniform. The campus remained out of bounds due to police blockade. Many students fell unconscious and many suffered lathi injuries.
- But the police refused permission to send the injured and unconscious students to hospital by ambulances. The students had no alternative and stoned the police. The police officials arrested many students. The situation that turned into a battlefield in the campus was telecast live by the TV News channels.

While dying, Shrikanth Chary raised slogans “Jai Telangana,” “Jai Jai Telangana” and stated, “If there is birth again after death, I will sacrifice my life again for Telangana.” On the one side the scenes of demonic activities of the police on the O.U. students and on the other side the collapsing S Shrikanth Chary, were seen live on TV by the Telangana people and from now onwards they turned in to fierce agitators and did not remain as bystanders., Ram Reddy, Advocate filed public interest litigation in the High Court contending that by obstructing the hunger strike of KCR the Government violated the democratic right. Shri Kanth Chary was admitted into hospital with severe burn ínjuries.
- After arresting KCR, the police wanted to shift him to either Warangal or Hyderabad. On realizing the intensity of the agitation and the prevailing disturbed conditions, the Government felt that the influence of the agitation was less at Khammam and shifted KCR to that place. In Khammam, the government and the intelligence had to face severe resistance and opposition under the leadership of the students, people’s and employees associations which was not anticipated. Mainly, CPIML(New Democracy Party) which was in favor of the United AP a few days before the commencement of the hunger strike took its decision now in favor of separate Telangana.
- It protested with its members taking part in the sit down strike. The Khammam district was simmering because of the flash dharnas(protests), rasta rokos(obstructing of roads) and rallies of the New Democracy Party. It was because of the protests at every step by the New Democracy Party and the people’s organizations that after more than twelve hours KCR was taken to the Second Class Magistrate C.Rama Murthi’s residence as it was Sunday.
