All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party

• The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party was established in 1927 during the Nizam era.
• In 1957, upon his departure for Pakistan, MIM President Qasim Rizvi appointed Abdul Wahid Owaisi as his successor. Owaisi subsequently renamed the party to AIMIM.
• From 1952 to 1955, during the Non-Mulki movement which resisted the integration of Hyderabad into the Vishalandhra movement, Muslims in Hyderabad actively participated under the MIM banner.
• Under Abdul Wahid Owaisi’s leadership, the AIMIM consistently opposed the creation of a separate Telangana state until the latter phases of the movement.
• However, during 1989-1990, then MIM President Salahuddin Owaisi briefly allied with the “Telangana Sangharshana Samithi,” advocating for a separate Telangana, before later reversing his stance.
• Following Salahuddin Owaisi’s death, his successor Asaduddin Owaisi continued to oppose the division of Andhra Pradesh.
• In 2010, AIMIM leaders Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi advocated for a united Andhra Pradesh before the Sri Krishna Committee, suggesting that if a division were to occur, the Rayalaseema districts should be merged with Telangana to form a “Rayala Telangana.”
