Unlocking the UPSC CSE Process
The UPSC CSE follows a rigorous three-stage selection process:
General Studies Paper-I (Current events, History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Environment, etc.)
General Studies Paper-II (CSAT – Aptitude, Reasoning, Decision-making)
Serves as a qualifying stage for the Main Examination.
One Qualifying Indian Language paper
One Qualifying English language paper
Essay paper
Four General Studies (GS) papers
Two Optional Subject papers
Candidates who clear Mains are summoned for the Personality Test.
In-depth interview with a UPSC board focusing on:
Candidate’s intellectual curiosity and mental alertness

Integrity, social traits, and suitability for civil service
Final Selection & Services Allocation
Based on the combined scores of the Main Examination and the Personality Test, the UPSC prepares a final merit list.
Candidates are allocated to the various civil services based on their rank, preferences, vacancies, category, and medical fitness.
Eligibility for the UPSC CSE
Nationality: Indian citizen
Educational Qualification: A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a recognized university.
Age: Minimum 21 years.

Other Backward Classes (OBC): 35 years
Scheduled Caste
(SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST):
37 years
Number of Attempts: * General Category: 6 attempts
* OBC: 9 attempts * SC/ST:
Unlimited attempts (until the upper age limit is reached)
Essential Preparation Strategies
Thorough Understanding of Syllabus: Carefully analyze the UPSC CSE syllabus for both Prelims and Mains.
